Description
Image of inner courtyard passageway of Sultanhani which is a large 13th-century Seljuk caravanserai located in the town of Sultanhanı, Aksaray Province, Turkey. It is one of the three monumental caravanserais in the neighborhood of Aksaray and is located about 25 miles west of Aksaray on the road to Konya and continuing into Persia. Sultanhani was built in 1229 and was restored and extended in 1278 after it was partially destroyed by fire.
A caravanserai was a roadside inn where travelers could rest and recover from the day's journey. Sultanhani has a large area inside its walls where one could rest their camels during their stay. I have heard that the cost to a caravan to stay was zero, however there was a limit of three days that people could stay here.
I was delighted with the way the light, shadows and color are shown in this image.
