Description
The Gate to the Bosphorus is one of three main gates of the Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul, Turkey. The gate to the Bosphorus was the entry to the palace grounds for those arriving by water by way of the Bosphorus Straits.
This ornate gate is a sampling of the grandeur of the grounds and the palace.
Dolmabahce Palace is an eleven acre estate used by the Sultan when he was in residence in Istanbul. The palace contains 285 rooms, 46 halls, 6 baths, 68 toilets and contains an entire wing for use by his harem. The harem area includes eight interconnected apartments for the wives of the sultan, for his favourites and concubines, and for his mother, each with its own bathroom.
