Description
A young grizzly, probably around 3 years old, who was just run off by his mother. He came very close to our group and our guide speculated that he did that for protection because a much larger grizzly was following about 70 feet behind. A small percentage of bear cubs live to be adults because grizzlies are cannibalistic and are often destroyed by the older bears in the vicinity.
This photo was taken in Hallo Bay which is part of Katmai National Park and Preserves on a peninsula in southern Alaska.
