This Medieval wrought iron sign hangs over a bookstore in Damme, Belgium. These signs were a way that shop owners advertised their business and their wares in olde tyme Europe. Many of them still hang in front of shops on narrow cobblestone streets, some left over from a medieval tradition.

This particular sign was hanging on one of two bookstores in a small Dutch village. I speculate that the people in that village had a love for books.

I am intrigued by these signs and have photographed them all over Europe.
