Description
What a pleasant surprise to see the STS Lord Nelson in dock when I arrived at Poole Harbor. Her tall masts and massive rigging are so impressive, I took several minutes to stare in amazement at the lovely sight.
Lord Nelson was the first tall ship in the world to be designed and built to enable people of all physical abilities to sail side by side on equal terms. In 2012-14 she undertook her most ambitious adventure with disabled and able bodied crews. Barque Lord Nelson sailed around the World, gaining her lots of new friends and sailors of all nationalities from Argentinians to Sri Lankan voyage crew.
STS Lord Nelson was two years in the making. Commissioned by the Jubilee Sailing Trust she would be the ‘flagship’ for the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s mission to enable people with disabilities to sail.
