Description
This elegant historic hand-carved wood and tile fireplace is from the Lane-Hooven House in Hamilton, Oh.
The fireplace is a sparkling focal point in historic homes. This fireplace was found in the drawing room of the Lane-Hooven mansion. The fireplace was a necessity in early America. As the hub of the house, a burning hearth provided heat. Each room of the Lane-Hooven house has a fireplace.
The enamiled tile around this fireplace looks a lot like Rookwood pottery and many people mistake it for Rookwood. However, it is actually Hamilton Tile made in the Hamilton Tile works of the city of Hamilton, Ohio. Sadly Hamilton Tile Works went out of business in 1901.
