Description
A beautiful butterfly found at "Butterfly World" in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida belonging to the Heliconius family of longwing butterflies. Apparently there is significant evolution happening with this species of butterfly and it is difficult to identify markings on individual butterflies. Several sources were found to determine that this is indeed a Heliconius Erato Lativitta. I like to think of it as the butterfly marked with a shield.
: ERATO was one of the nine Muses, the goddesses of music, song and dance. Her name means "the lovely" or "beloved" from the Greek word eratos. In Classical times, when the Muses were assigned specific artistic spheres, she was named Muse of erotic poetry and mimic imitation and represented holding a lyre.
