Description
The "cute" outhouse is located near Big Bay Lighthouse on the shores of Lake Superior in Big Bay, Michigan.
Because I like to hike and explore, I encounter these little structures often in my journeys. Though they are rustic and often primitive it must be acknowledged that I am always glad to come across them and often put them to use.
An outhouse, also known by many other names, is a small structure, separate from a main building, which covers one or more toilets. This is typically either a pit latrine (long drop) or a bucket toilet, but other forms of dry (non-flushing) toilets may be encountered. The term may also be used to denote the toilet itself, not just the superstructure.
Outhouses were in use in cities of developed countries well into the second half of the twentieth century. They are still common in rural areas and also in cities of developing countries.
