Description
This elegant Estate stove is found in the Lane-Hooven House in Hamilton, Ohio. These stoves were made in Hamilton and I imagine this was brought right from the factory to this house. What a treasure this must have been to the cook of the house.
The Estate Stove Company was founded in 1884 by the Kahn Brothers, Lazard and Felix. They had a foundry in Hanging Rock, Ohio where they made wood- and coal-fueled stoves for domestic purposes. Heating stoves and gas furnaces were also part of their product line, but it was the stoves for which they became most known.
By 1888, their business had grown significantly, and they moved to Hamilton, Ohio. In 1905, they took on the name Estate Stove Company. They were bought by RCA in 1952, which was bought by Whirlpool in 1955.
