Description
Eagle Harbor Lighthouse as it rests on top of an outcropping overlooking Lake Superior is a beautiful sight. The lapping of the waves against the shore is mesmerizing and causes one to linger as they gaze at this view.
Situated sixteen miles west of Copper Harbor, Eagle Harbor was first settled in 1844 by Edward Taylor, who built a log warehouse and extended wooden piers into the harbor. The following year, the Eagle Harbor Mining Company arrived and built the expansive Eagle Harbor House, which opened to boarders in 1846 and remains standing today. The Eagle Harbor Mining Company was one of many enterprises prospecting for rich veins of copper on the Keweenaw Peninsula.
