Description
A lovely cove coming off Kachemak Bay near Homer, Alaska.
In the forefront of the photo is fireweed, the glorious flower that is found all over Alaska. The flowers bloom on spikes with the earliest blooms on the bottom and during the blooming season the blooms creek up the spike. Legend has it that when the blooms get to the top of the spike summer is over. As you can see in the photo the blooms are at the top.
Kachemak Bay is a 40-mi-long arm of Cook Inlet in the U.S. state of Alaska, located on the southwest side of the Kenai Peninsula. The communities of Homer, Halibut Cove, Seldovia, Nanwalek, Port Graham, and Kachemak City are on the bay as well as three Old Believer settlements in the Fox River area, Voznesenka, Kachemak Selo, and Razdolna.
